commonly known as the ‘Neverclear’ Compilation
which was made by Myke Destiny and Karl Maruyama. |
Notes: The next three years
were spent pulling his life together, studying film at Santa
Monica College and U.C.L.A., working "shitty jobs" and playing in a few
bands. By 1987 it was time to get out of L.A.. He went with his
first wife to San Francisco. "It was cool," he says. "You
could get gigs there." (2)
Not much is known about the band “Shakinbrave” besides
the facts that it was Art Alexakis’ first real band. The
band was based in Los Angeles, CA and had a few gigs but was
not too successful and later broke up.
Lars Fox clarifies the name of the band. “[It’s]
Shakinbrave (Art spelled it as one word) [it] always cracked
me up as a name. I told Art it sounded like a shivering
Indian!” (61)
‘The Marrying Kind’ is the first song that Art ever wrote.
The song would be re-recorded by Colorfinger.
'Dog' is a politically charged song written about former presidential
candidate Gary Hart.
‘Heartspark Dollarsign’ is a solo acoustic rendition which is much
slower, has completely different lyrics, and a slightly different
arrangement as compared to later versions of the song.
'Dead Flowers' and 'Tattoos' can only be found from this session.
'Dead Flowers' is fast-paced cover of the original Rolling Stones
song. It features slightly alternate lyrics about Art’s
first wife Anita.
'Tattoos' is a fast punk song about falling in love with a girl
with tattoos.
